Farmers Yarn No.4 : Simon Fowlie, Taranaki farmer
Simon Fowlie of Kak Contracting recently re-developed a boundary fence on his sheep and beef farm in Taranaki. We thought we’d ask him how the 1.8 quarter rounds went!
How did you hear about Repost?
Your young Taranaki Rep Neko was talking to the neighbouring dairy farmer about getting your posts, so the neighbour asked if I wanted some too! Gotta say the price was appealing from the get-go and after doing my own research checking out your website and Facebook page, decided I’d give them a go!
Also need to give Neko a mention, at 20 he’s got a good hustle work ethic. With people like him coming up in the primary sector, the future looks better to me!
How did you install them?
We brought in someone who used their fencing installation machine. We chose 8 wire and 5 battens every 3.65 metres.
Any constructive feedback on posts that others may not know?
Being that the post stock is recycled, the size diameter does vary so bear that in mind. Also, it’s not soft like virgin timber as seasoned which although makes it strong its harder on the nail guns when installing clips.
But genuinely I’d say give the Repost posts a go, they are value for money and quality wood to get the job done. Just because there recycled doesn't make them lesser than, we found there perfectly fit for purpose for ag fencing…
If your looking for a local Taranaki rural contractor for aeration, baling/balage/hay, cartage (including stock), cultivation, direct drilling, drilling, earth moving, effluent/manure spreading… Simon and his team are your guys.
