QnA with Alexandra McKeown - Waste Management Rep

How was the 24’ harvest season? It was great! It’s the busiest time of year for us – our team doubles! We have a crew working 7 days a week to support the wineries and we carted a phenomenal amount of marc and bio sludge up to Bankhouse and Centaland.

How your finding this year so far? Since harvest it hasn’t really slowed down at all! We have just taken over kerbside collections for Marlborough Council. It’s such a hot topic for Marlburians which has created a heap of opportunity for me to help businesses recover waste materials.

What drew you to the waste Industry? My mum actually referred me for the role she was a WM dispatch coordinator…turns out I’m really passionate about challenging the mindset around “just chuck it away” . It’s changed my purchasing habits from just get something new, to now avoiding things that are wrapped in plastic. Purchasing with purpose and a deeper understanding of the impacts of what seems like a small decision, leading to a larger Environmental impact.

You work in the fine region of Marlborough, what is your favourite wine and why? I love a Wairau River Pinot Gris or Lawsons Dry Hills, it’s like liquid nectar, but when Im feeling a treat it has to be No1 estate bubbles! Aren’t we lucky to have this all on our doorstep.

How you finding/found working with Repost so far? The guys are awesome, I’m so stoked to be working with a future focused business and they have been so easy to deal with.

We see WM is making really positive decision in the sustainable space, is this important to you? Yeah it is hugely important to me, I have young kids and want them to grow up with knowing how to look after their environment. This is definitely more a focus now which will only grow further in my eyes.

Do you know any farmers that have used the posts? I don’t specifically but I know my customers use your products, the likes of hortus. So your product is defiantly growing in the region.
